Bad Ass DJ

Shot this late afternoon of my bro with the 5D Mark II with a little fill flash which wasn’t a huge factor but made the side of his face slightly better. Post processing I created a bnw, a blue duotone and then a quadtone (blue, black, purple, orange) and overlaid them with some various blending modes in Photoshop. What do you think?

On the patio enjoying the summer

winebalcony

I know…haven’t shot much lately. Sorry – Been busy with work. (and enjoying the water)

So these two shots both came off my balcony. The other day I noticed this beautiful light hitting the chair on the deck so I grabbed the camera, dusted it off and snapped off a dozen or so shots. Put this one together with some HDR action. Used 4-5 shots to create the comp. Amazing detail down to the wood grain and fibers on the chair cushion and I personally really like the light on this one.

And the darker/sunset shot – Was enjoying a glass a wine while the sun was setting and thought I’d grab a few to capture the moment. Downside was that the glasses were a bit dirty…which I could always clean with Photoshop without much effort.

What do you think?

My first portrait shoot

Having never worked in a studio or with a model, I took a private lesson with a wonderful photog and a fantastic model/actress named Veronica in Buenos Aires.  Not bad for the first time.

My first attempts at HDR…kinda cool.  I used the Photomatix plug in for Aperture — it’s easy to use and I like the results.

Vineyard Sunset and Sunrise

I was traveling in the US, so I had not been out to the vineyard for a few weeks…it was worth the wait…

Joshua Tree

Landed in LA, grabbed some fajitas with Pruter.  We drove to Joshua Tree (3 1/2 hours).  Arrived to the Harmony Hotel (U2 stayed there!) — still a dump.  Crashed about 1am and woke up at 3:30 am to drive to the park and take these…Exhausted but fun.  D300 on my new midget Gitzo tripod…which is cool other than the fact you need to lie on the ground to use it…easy to carry though.  Quit laughing pruter.  After the shots, we found tacos al pastor for breakfast at 8am.  Great little trip and absolutely stunning location.

Carlsbad Fields of Flowers

carlsbad-flowers

Cruised over to the 50 acres of flowers over in Carlsbad this weekend for a few shots. Here is one of my favorites. Shot handheld with the Canon 5d mark II with an EF24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens at 1/200 sec, f/8 and 100ISO.

Canon’s new tilt and shift lens

Yesterday Canon announced two new tilt and shift lenses that look absolutely amazing. The TS-E 17mm f/4L which has the widest view of any tilt/shift lens and the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II which is just an upgrade to another lens. Great lenses for keeping that “curve” out of your shot. (check out Canon’s sample image)  Would love to have one soon as they come out in May!

More info on it here or here if interested.
